Special Teams
Special Teams
Our special teams proudly represent our program throughout the year by competing in multiple high-level events, giving cadets the opportunity to develop leadership, teamwork, and discipline while showcasing their skills against top schools and JROTC units from across the region.
ARMED DRILL:
Our Armed Drill Team offers cadets an exciting opportunity to build confidence, discipline, and teamwork while representing our program in competitions throughout the school year. This dynamic team is made up of three specialized units, each showcasing unique skills and leadership. The Inspection Team focuses on excellence in appearance, military bearing, and knowledge, as cadets are evaluated through formal inspections and questioning by judges.
The Regulation Team demonstrates precision and discipline by executing standardized rifle drill sequences and coordinated marching routines. The Exhibition Team highlights creativity and advanced skill, performing high-energy routines that include intricate rifle maneuvers such as spins and tosses. Together, these teams provide cadets with a well-rounded experience that builds leadership, sharpens focus, and instills pride—while competing against other top JROTC programs.
UNARMED DRILL:
Our Unarmed Drill Team gives cadets an exciting opportunity to develop confidence, teamwork, and leadership while competing throughout the school year. This team is perfect for students who want to build discipline and perform with precision—no equipment required.
The team is made up of three specialized units, each offering a unique experience. The Inspection Team focuses on professionalism, as cadets are evaluated on their military bearing, confidence, and knowledge during formal inspections. The Regulation Team demonstrates discipline and attention to detail by performing synchronized marching and standardized drill sequences. The Exhibition Team brings energy and creativity to the floor, performing dynamic, non-regulated routines designed to captivate judges and audiences alike.
In addition, cadets on the exhibition team incorporate step-team elements, using clapping, stomping, and rhythmic movements to create powerful, high-energy performances that highlight unity and school pride. Together, these experiences help cadets grow as leaders, build lasting friendships, and proudly represent our program in competition.
COLOR GUARD:
This elite special team represents the very best of our program, consistently earning top honors within the California drill community. Cadets on this team are held to the highest standards of excellence, developing strong leadership skills, discipline, and a deep sense of teamwork and pride.
Members train with a focus on unity, professionalism, and always giving their best—both in competition and in service to the community. In addition to competing against top JROTC programs, the team proudly performs at important events such as football games, military balls, and formal ceremonies. During competitions, cadets are evaluated on their military bearing, precision in rifle and flag drill, marching, and overall knowledge. This is our most formal team, with cadets wearing their Class A uniforms and service caps, representing the program with pride, honor, and distinction.
For students and families seeking a premier, highly disciplined experience, this team offers an unmatched opportunity to grow, lead, and excel.
RAIDER:
The Raider Team is an elite, physically demanding athletic team that builds strength, endurance, and leadership through hands-on training and competition. Cadets develop essential skills such as physical fitness, knot tying, map reading, and teamwork, while learning to operate effectively under pressure.
Through challenging events like obstacle courses, 5K runs, rope bridge construction, and tire flips, cadets build trust, resilience, and strong team cohesion. This experience emphasizes discipline, communication, and esprit de corps in a high-energy, outdoor environment.
Raider cadets proudly wear the OCP (Operational Camouflage Pattern) uniform and represent the program in competitive Army JROTC events focused on fitness, leadership, and tactical skills.
MARKSMANSHIP:
The Marksmanship Team offers cadets a focused, individual growth experience centered on discipline, patience, and precision. Cadets are trained in proper pellet rifle handling, shooting techniques, breath control, safety procedures, and the three fundamental shooting positions.
This team builds strong mental focus, self-control, and responsibility, all of which are essential both in competition and in life. Cadets compete in events where accuracy, safety, and technique are carefully evaluated.
To ensure safety and readiness, all members must successfully pass a rifle and range safety certification before joining the team
ACADEMIC:
The Academic Team challenges cadets to strengthen problem-solving, critical thinking, and academic excellence. Cadets compete in the annual JROTC Academic Bowl, demonstrating knowledge in JROTC curriculum, math, english, science, and current world events.
Teams of four cadets, with two alternates, work together to compete through multiple rounds of competition. Top-performing teams may advance to the final round held in Washington, D.C., offering an exciting opportunity for national-level recognition and achievement.
LEADERSHIP:
The Leadership Team provides cadets an opportunity to demonstrate and strengthen their JROTC knowledge through competitive, team-based challenges. Cadets work together in teams of four, with two alternates, to answer questions drawn from the JROTC curriculum as well as general cadet knowledge.
Through this experience, cadets develop confidence, communication, and critical thinking skills while competing for the opportunity to advance to the national finals in Washington, D.C.
DRONES:
Cadets gain hands-on experience in drone flight, engineering, programming, and teamwork while building strong communication and leadership skills. They learn core flight concepts like physics, propulsion, and mission planning, then apply them by coding autonomous flight paths and working together in real time. Teams compete in exciting challenges such as obstacle courses and precision landings, while also documenting and presenting their work.
This program connects directly to future careers in aerospace, robotics, and technology, and strengthens STEAM skills in science, technology, engineering, arts, and math.
